xt 600 engine block material? can it be welded?

hello I was wondering what type of material a xt600 engine block is?
I was wondering if it could be welded?
One of my xt600 engine the kickstart blew apart breaking a piece of the engine casting it self, the peice that broke is the kickstop stopper has 2 bolts it broke the top bolt off and part of the engine casting.
thank you

Hi ! I own a brazilian version of the XT600Z Ténéré ( 1990 ), and somewhere in the block it's written "Magnesium", but i don't know exactly what material it is, as I think it is actualy a mix of something plus magnesium. But the good news to you is that mine is welded. Last year i've got a chain broke and it hit that left cover, the one that is over the stator, and it resulted in a crack on it. I've got it well welded, and it didn't caused me any problems since that.

I had a casing that was welded in the exact same place!!!

I didn't do the welding but it can be done - just find the right person.

Just to add - I have a spare casing if that helps???

PM me if you are intrested:thumbup1:
