xt 600 clutch cover
 

Hi, I bought a 1984 xt 600 but the clutch cover had a crack and started to leak so i took it to a local welder who to put it blunt cocked it right up. so im looking for info if any other year of bike clutch cover will fit or if there is anyone out there who has one for sale. Fingers crossed

Does it have "Magnesium" written on the cover?

Yes it does say magnesium

i dont think the magnesium cover will weld succesfully,ive had magnesium brake backplates from yz damaged and my welder guy that normaly does alloy bits for me said it wouldnt be any good.
my 34l tenere has some resin over some damage on clutch cover done from inside where blanking plug from right hand side of gearbox output shaft fell out?....low oil pressure/getting hot anyone?ooops.

Yep magnesium is tricky to weld, just google the subject, im guessing your man thought it was alloy?

Keep an eye out on ebay for a spare.

JB weld is good, but its not a weld its glue.

update on said cover is as follows. went down the jb weld route so started to clean up the case and where it had been welded a piece about 1 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch fell out and left a gaping hole. so carried on regardless using bluetack to mould the shape i required and then filled it with jb weld. doesn't look that bad now its sanded down and doesn't leak yet although the fixing point i formed has snapped off. so i'm still on the lookout for a cover which i believe to be for a 43f so if anyone has one for sale , let me know cheers all for your help

The cover is still available (sit down) between US$350 to US$450 :(

Original part number is 5Y1-15431-00 which is now superseded to part number 5Y1-15431-03-00 and is also used on the following models.

1982/83 XT550J
1983/86 TT600 (US models)
1984/89 XT600 (US models)

You want the solid cover without the round removable bit that says "YAMAHA" and has magnesium written on the side.

There`s one here in Germany for €25.00 :D

And if that`s not available you need to know how to say clutch cover in german,,, Kupplungsdeckel
