XT 550 not filling battery
Seems like my XT400 does not fill battery. Currently my battery is dead, but if I start engine lights are very dim, and on higher revs light get very dim. But, when I pres kill switch as the engine shuts down lights gets brighter for split of a second.
If I disconnect brown wire from regulator than ligts are bright, but if i rev the engine voltage goes too high and that fries bulbs. I tried google, but I found only one guy with same problem(DirtRider.Net Text Version - XT550 Dim lights), and no solution :( |
Sounds like the alterantor is doing its job - whacking out some volts :thumbup1:
But you seem to have narrowed it down to the reg/rec..... The voltage at the battery - when bikes running - should be over 13 v and ideally under 15v ! Obviously if the reg/rec is toast, the voltage will carry on climbing with rev increase! |
Agreed - it's the reg/rec. Same symptoms when mine went.

Do you know does XT600 2KF, or 3TB have the same regulator?
I will try to borrow regulator from friend, so I can be sure what is the problem, but till then - is it safe to ride with broken regulator? |
As long as you disconnect the alternator - you'll just be running an equivalent of a "total loss" system - like race bikes, by using the battery power - but it need to be well charged - no lights & no going too far!!!!

def sounds like reg/rec if it was the stator the voltage would not get that high.

Whoever said that Regulator/rectifier was fried - he was right.
I got custom made regulator (Vrhunski zamjenski 12V regleri za motocikle) and now my lights work as advertised :) |
