Will not start.

My Super Tenere 1200xtz 2016 model 4500mls will not start.
Bought the bike 4mts ago had a few great trips out on it. I had the previous model and never had any trouble with it, done a few long trips on t around Europe and down to Faro rally Portugal a few times.
Have bought a battery just in case there is not enough in old one.

Hi streetbob2521,

Not a lot of info to work with here!
When you say that it will not start- is the engine turning over when the button is pressed? if it is, is it faster or slower than usual?
Are there any unusual noises?
Do all the electrics work ie head light, indicators?
Have you tried a spare key in case the immobiliser system is the issue?

Checking things like the kill switch and side stand switch may save a red face:oops2:
Has there been a theft attempt?

Have you been tampering with it or jet washing it?
Do you have any recently added accessories?

Any additional information you give may help with fault finding.

Eddie.

The 3 basics;

Spark at the spark plug?
Fuel - should be able to smell it if you remove the spark plug (see above)
Compression - should be able to feel is if you remove the spark plug (see above)

2 things to try ,

1. Turn ignition off
2. Press both blacks buttons in the cockpit, turn the ignition on and keep pressing both buttons for 8 seconds (the display will switch to diag mode). Now you can release the buttons.
3. Push booth buttons again for 3 seconds. The display will switch again.
4. Now give full throttle and let the starter turn for 4-5 seconds.
5. Release the throttle and turn the ignition off.
6. Turn the ignition on (display should be in normal mode) and the XT should start without any problems.

With this procedure, the full pump will be deactivated and no fuel will be injected during the de-air of the pistons.

A much more simpler procedure is to use a key without transponder(if so equipped). If you start your XT with such a key, the starter will turn but the fuel pump is deactivate by the ECU.

the second thing is ,

1. Put kill switch in off position.
2. Put the key in and turned it on in neutral.
3. Put kill switch in on position. (I couldn't hear the fuel pump).
4. WOT first, then hit starter button.
