Which XT Model?

Hi

I've read up and spent an hour searching around, and can only get to the bottom of the year of my bike from the VIN. I can't figure out what suffix letter model this is - E, K, what?

I thought originally it was a 1990, but my vin of JYA3WRT09MA002126 indicates a 1991. I think it's an XT600E but I can't find any lists of what was sold in Australia (it may have been imported I guess, although it has been registered here and has ADR compliance plate). It has E-start, no kicker.

It might be entirely irrelevant for parts etc the letter designation on the end but it'd be worth knowing I guess.

Any idea?

Jim

K is kickstart, E is electric starter.

There is more info in this post on ADV Rider:

Looks like you might have a 3WR model then. Which is also an XT600E because it has electric start. The earlier kick start model (43F) was just an XT600.

Although my old 43F was an XT600SYBT (Start You Bloody Thing). :)

Aaaahhh xtrock, so simple, yet missed completely. Thanks.

I'll check out that link too, thanks.

I think I'm right in saying that if your bike is a 1991 model, it won't have an electric start? Which means it's NOT a XT600E which was made a few years later on....

I find the electric start a must with a bad back.

I have a mate with a rapid Honda XR650 (OEM without cush drive) and he broke his ankle last year trying to kick start it! The compression is huge. But when it's finally going it's just about the fastest trail bike I have ever seen! :funmeterno: My XT6E is tame & sedate by comparison.

OK, I'll check that out and report back - if I can find it amongst the crud. The stamp on the engine block is 3wr-002126 which matches with the VIN. According to that link Mezo the 3WR didn't appear in Oz until 1994 though??

OK, so the number on the frame, stamped into the headstock on the right is the same as the VIN. There is also a 'YM' stamped slightly higher than the frame number (I'm guessing this is a reference to Yamaha??. The ADR plate says 08/90 and then the VIN.

So, the evidence appears to point to either a 1990 (assuming the 08/90 on the plate is date) or a 1991 according to the VIN itself. And an 'E' because it most definitely doesn't have a kicker - that bit I'm pretty sure about!

Now the 3WR didn't appear in Aus (according to the link) until 1994 so.... I'm none the wiser...
