where is the volage regulator on a XT600z?

Measured the voltage on battery engine off 9Volts.
Started engine measured volage at 17volts.
After a few minutes the battery fluid boiled like a kettel.
Where is the voltage regulator on XT600z 1vj model 1989?
Anyone using Shinko Tires?

The regulator is bolted to the battery box (on my 3AJ)
You should make sure the electric plug is clean no lose wires if possible remove the regulator and clean the back so there is good contact with earth also check the earth wire and clean.
I had an XT that boiled a battery. The garage put a S/H honda reg on and every thing works a few weeks later I pluged the wires into my old regulator that was still in place and every thing worked so I think I just had bad conections.
good luck

The voltage is under the seat, at the back, close to the rear mudguard.
Your battery sounds buggered.
A volt meter should read about 12-13v with the engine off.
With the engine running, anything about 14-15v is ok.
As your is showing 17v, its possible it is because the battery is totally shagged, and its pumping in loads of charge to try and charge it.
It sounds like a new battery is needed, about £30.
I'd then test again, and if thats getting 17v, then i'd also replace the reg/rectifier. I think theres a post on here, and there about £33.
Worst case scenario your looking about £65
