What's it worth?

My dad is thinking about selling his xt600 03 with lots of touring bits on wondering where to sell and how much it's worth. It has an acerbis tank, mot centre stand, arrow ss exhaust, 7000 miles

£1500-1800 in a private sale. As long as it's in good condition with no hidden nasties.

I paid £1800 for an 03 bike with 1500 miles which looked like it came out of the crate.

Mileage is low on yours which is nice as are the touring goodies. I'd advertise for £1800 and only sell it for £1500 if you're skint and in a rush to move it.

I agree with Touring Ted (got a habit of doing that).

I'd say you should get at least £1,600 if the bike is in really good almost mint condition. A bike shop will sell one of these for upto £2,200. Personally I'd put it up for £1,800 and see what happens. You might find someone like me prepared to pay over the odds for a nice example...

If it's not looking mint then I'd put it up for £1,500 and accept £1,200.

It's becoming harder and harder to find good low milage mint XT6E's. Most have been well ridden and many already ridden to near destruction.

In time they will become like Rocking Horse Sh1te. Much the same as the venerable DR350 became.... Still in demand but very few working examples left (a superb little bike).

This sounds exactly like what I'm after, so definitely put it on eBay for £800! haha

If you do decide to put it on eBay, I'll make sure I'll watch the bidding.

A good bargain price for it on Fleabay would be about £1,200 tops. I'd hestitate to pay very much more if I wanted a bargain PRIVATE buy (without the protection of the Sales of Goods Act 1979).

OR hang out (considerably longer probably) for someone prepared to pay the PRIVATE market top value - £1,500 plus but only if it's a true minter.

If I was selling my own pair (both minters) I'd want no less than £1,600 each for a PRIVATE buy (sold as seen). If I was desperate then I'd be silly to ignore an offer of £1,500. Then again mine get polished more than ridden (and oil changes after 1,000 miles).

If you're after a quick sell then look no further than above.... these guys will ensure it goes to a good (well valued) home...

I think they're worth more than that in good, low mileage condition. Dealers are still after £2000 plus for them so you generally knock off 10-15% for private prices.

Although, the OP has given us VERY little information about the bike so valuing it is impossible....

I should of kept mine (sold in Colombia)...

Maybe it's time that I started to build up a collection of classic overland bikes as in another five years, the only thing you will be able to buy is a 250kg BMW or another brands plastic road bias imitation. :thumbdown:

AFRICA TWIN RD07 for sure. Needs no explanation.
XT600E. I still think this is the best overland machine for the 3rd world.
DR650SE. Heavier but more road biast version of the XT.
DRZ400. Most reliable 'proper dirt bike' that you can travel on.
BMW R100GS. A classic.

These are the bikes I think will be passed around for decent money in ten years time for people who don't want to be riding a Touratech Catalogue.
