What happens?

Hey all!

I got one question: What happens when you use a tire that is suited for one rim size(wide) on a smaller wide rim?

The thing is, I got a 21"x1.60 EXCEL front rim and for the MOT I have to use the stock front wheel size tire 90/90-21

What happens if I use the 90/90-21 tire on the 21"x1.60 rim?

NOTE: 90/90-21 is fit for a 21"x1.85 rim....

Thanks!

nothing! :-)

there are some bikes (talking about yamaha) that are approved for use of a 90\90 21 on a 21x1,60 rim, so taking out legal matters (insurance in case of crash, if you bike documents are different) you can use a 90\90 21 on that rim.

That's good to know!

on my documents it only mentions the size of the tire... there is no reference to the rim size width...

How about in terms of riding?
I imagine the tire in the 21"x1.60 rim would make it "rounder" if you know what i mean...

The middle part of the tire will surely degrade faster but.....
What happens in terms of handling?

I like to lean and accelerate into the curves lol...

On a sportsbike, having a tyre on a narrow rim (or, more usually, running a wider tyre than the rim is designed for) deforms the tread and can lead to instability and unpredictable behaviour. On an XT - not sure if you would notice :)

My other ride has a narrower front rim than the xt, i use the same tires and cant tell the difference....

As Jens says - don't think it'll really notice too much on one of these machine, not exactly a "precise track machine".

May stand out a bit on Rossi's MotoGP bike...... !

Hi guys!

Nice!
That'll surely keep me from wasting some cash on new rims for a while at least... and keep the EXCEL rim :P

Thanks for the input!
