What bars?

Having had an 'adventure' with knobbly tyres and fast cornering on tarmac, the handlebars of my 2003 XT600E are a bit bent. They are rideable but I'll have to replace them soonish.

Any recommendations, places to buy? I'm looking to use the bike increasingly off-road so would like quite a wide set.

I'm also a curmudgeonly old(ish) git and don't like spending big money, so just something that does the job is fine. No need for titanium doodads or fancy graphics.

Thanks,

Matt :)

Matt,
You could try ebay for someones second hand Renthals - loads there last time I looked.

No other damage then?

I had a run in with a driver who didn't want to stop and left me in a pile in the road. I went to Yamaha and came out in shock at the price of spares. I went for Renthal bars I think they were 613 Dakar High bars from B&C Express wider than the originals but I found there was not a lot of slack on the cables but they just fit. Very happy with them and the gold goes great with my 2003 blue XT.

I fitted Renthal bars to my Tenere after a run-in with a scooter in India! They are not expensive and come in so many different shapes and sizes it's easy to match the originals or your own personal requirements. Go through the B & C Express Catalogue with a local bike shop and your sure to find what you want.

i have the original yamaha bars off my '03 xt600e if you are interested? i fitted fatbars to mine when i supermotoed it a few months backs

Thanks everyone for your imput, some good leads to follow up on.

Walkabout, I bent the gear lever but I've just whacked it back into something approximating the original shape and there's some new scratches on my Acerbis tank to go with the others ;) but otherwise the bike is fine. My Dave Yates bash plate stopped any crank case damage, which I don't think the original engine bars would have done. To think I bought it to protect the engine when off road!

Hi,

I'm looking for some alloy jobs really. I crashed the bike in Romania last year and my original bars folded a little easily for my liking. The bars I've just bent were alloy replacements I bought in Bucharest and they stood up to the crash far better.
Thanks for the offer though.

I have a set of purple!! renthals new but a scratch on them you can have for a couple of £s plus postage. I can check postage cost as box is quite large.

Matt Cartney 30 Jul 2007 12:44

Hi Bolla,

Sounds good, if the postage is reasonable you got a deal! I'll pm you.

Matt :)
