Weak spark on Tenere 3AJ - XT600Z
 

Hello, we are Frederik and Katrien, 2 Belgians travelling around Australia on our bikes. We are stucked in Cairns with almost no spark on the Yamaha Tenere model 3AJ.

We got the luck to bump into Connor who is driving the same bike and could exchange the coil and CDI but no luck. Still a very weak spark.

The primary resistance of the coil is 0.4 Ohm.
The secondary resistance is 4.70 kOhm.
Are these data correct?

We measured the resistance of the stator used for the ignition: 150 Ohm. Does any one know if this is correct? We measured it as the resistance in between the red and brown wire comming from the engine. THe resistance in between the red and the frame and the brown and the frame is 0 in both cases.

We already have problems with the stator of the charging circuit, but this circuit is not used for the ignition seen the fact that we drove for a couple of thousand of k's this way.

The problem occured after having the bike turned of by using its side stand. However, we checked the relays start circuit and side stand relay and as far as we know they are ok.

Does any one have some more ideas getting us out of cairns on our bike?

if possible, change alternator for trying.
resistance between red and brown cable should measure between 160 and 240 ohms.
alternators can be rewired if necessary.
