uprated battery?
is there an uprated battery for the XT and are there any problems with putting one in?
my XT6ooE doesnt like these cold mornings unless the battery is totally charged 100%. i read in a mag that any battery loses 1% charge every day and i dont ride the XT for days at a time so im screwed unless i plan ahead and put the charger on the night before! ------------------ dave |
Hi
You can fit a kick and damn that battery! Otherwise my tips is: Before you leave the bike at evening(warm engine) -before you switch ignition off, choke it, pull choke to max, let cough(not to long and no throttle) and now stop ignition! -leave choke on max during night -in the morning keep on max, hit the starter,, Matt |
its not when i leave it overnight, thats fine, its when i leave it for two weeks at a time. the battery loses a volt or two and whats left isnt enough.
i want more amps ------------------ dave |
ln that case your best option is to get a special 220V battery charger, the intelligent ones keeping battery's from discharging, plug it in and leave it.
Maybe you could mount some kind of quick jack directly on bike to make it more practical?! Or you try a gel battery, they might stand cold better with higher amperage,,but very expensive to buy. Matt |
Buy an Optimate or similar. Very slow trickle charge with automatic cutout when it's fully charged.
They also come with a pair of wires that you can leave connected to the battery permanently. There's a block connector on the end of these wires that plugs straight to the charger leads. This means you don't have to keep removing seat etc every time you need to charge the bike. Believe me, it's £40.00 well spent. There's also a wall mounted bracket that you can buy for £8.00, I have mine mounted next to an electrical socket - all very easy. yes i think thats the way i will go. i'll also put an accessory socket in the side of the bike to match the one in my triumph so i can use the optimate on either without messing around with different cables.
does anyone know which is better value; OPTIMATE III DATATOOL CHARGER OXFORD OPTIMISER they all look like they are re-badged versions from the same maker, but there is some difference in price ------------------ dave |
