Upgrade for Yuasa YTX9-BS

Hey guys!

I was wondering if any of you have already upgraded your batteries for one with more Cold Cranking Amps "CCA" for short than the stock one?

I've found this beast: http://www.allpurposebatteries.com.a...products_id=11
240 CCA's, almost twice the CCA's of a normal battery...

Have a look at Oddesey Batteries for an upgrade in performance and price PC310 £110 - http://www.odysseybatteriesonline.co...roductspec.php

A few months ago I remember seeing a thread which showed a Chinese made YELLOW battery which gave VERY good cranking power, I can't locate the link however.

Be wary of Ebay - I got ripped off a few months ago (paid for a Yuasa YTX9 BS but got a crappy Chinese rubbish jobby instead, took weeks of threats to get my money back).

Oddisey is too expensive for my wallet and doubtfully work with my new Motobatt Little Boy 750maH battery charger....

I think I'm going with this one: eBay: Neue und gebrauchte Elektronikartikel, Autos, Kleidung, Sammlerstcke, Sportartikel und mehr alles zu gnstigen Preisen

It's a Banner battery 12v 9aH 190CCA ~58€ shipped...

my personal advice is to buy battery in a shop nearby, so you can bring it back if it's not ok. A few months ago I bought a gel battery and after the initial load it was only 12,6 V, took back to the shop and changed. The new one was ok at 12,8 V after the initial load.
If it was from an online shop, no chance..

That's the problem of living on a tiny island... there's no such things as a local battery shop :confused1: most local garages/car shops have only boat/car batteries...

I was quoted yesterday an a new Yuasa ytx9-bs (which needs to come from another island) 105€!

Banner has great reputation on batteries that's why I'm thinking of getting that one...
Well, I am getting that one on ebay later today...i guess!

Motobatt is the Chinese knock off of Odyssey, they are the best bet in replacement as they are an AGM not lead acid.

Hi,

I think all (/most) on this post has a XTZ600 Tenere (3AJ, etc..)? If so, I believe you may well be talking about a smaller power battery than was fitted originally - the Yuasa YB12AL-A2, which equates to the Motobatt MB12U? The MB12U appears to be much more powerful than the MBTX9U.

(Fyi, The YTX9-BS appears to be correct for the XT600E and XTZ660).

I would appreciate somebody double-checking this, as I don't want to mislead anybody!

1990 XT600E...

The ytz10s battery has 9amps VS the 8amps from the YTX9-BS and has 190cold cranking amps versus the 120~150 from the YTX9-BS

Plus.. it's slightly smaller!

If you are in Oz the Motobatt is the way to go.

My local bike guy stocks nothing else, and swears they are the first battery he has never had a warranty claim on.

The four terminals and intelligent sizing means that they cover all sizes and configurations with around a third of the number off batteries.

I have one in all my bikes and they have been perfect.

There is a good test on them somewhere on the net, and while the don't have the highest CCA 's out there the are 25% up on stock and most importantly they keep almost full voltage under load, which greatly assists starting.
Less than half the cost of the Oddesy too.

Mezo 12 Apr 2012 00:51

The only small gripe i had with them (i said small) is the terminals themselves, i did find them a bit flimsy & wondered how they would hold up under thousands of K`s of corrugation?

I guess time will tell i suppose, and for all you guys out there wondering what corrugation is, here`s a picture.

Its like this but 100 times faster. :scooter:

I'm going to get myself 2 of these Motobatt things... One for each of my XT's.

I have heard they represent outstanding value for money compared to other non Chinese made premium batteries.

Both my XT's currently have very cheap rubbish battery's fitted (£25 each). I ordered Yausa batteries (£40) on Ebay but the trader sent me a cheaper brand instead (while charging the full price)! They said it was an error but I think it was a deliberate ploy to make more money from a sale.

It took me weeks to get a part refund. The idiots couldn't seem to grasp the idea of compensation either. In their mind it was sufficient to merely make a part refund. I suppose I really should have demanded a FULL refund and got them to collect the batteries at their cost.... Last time I use Ebay for batteries...:nono:

Reminds me of a disasterous meal a few weeks ago when the waitor couldn't understand why I was so unhappy after getting crap meal, crap service and getting a full refund on the bill. They couldn't comprehend the fact my night was spolit and that I had to watch everyone else consume their meals.... When I asked for compensation over and above the cost of the meal they merely gave a blank stare....

I shall give you all an update once the things arrive....

bacardi23 22 Nov 2015 11:02

Well, updating after a few years..
The Banner YTZ10S AGM batteries are still going strong!

I can vouch for those!

Motobat terminals are S**T...

Junk those intermediate terminals and use shorter screws straight to the battery.

Personally I just use genuine Yuasa. £30-£40 new depending where you shop.

They last 5-6 years at least and are very easy to maintain.

I've used Odyssey and they still go flat like others if left standing.
