tyre pressures

I have road tyres fitted on my 1984 XT600, can anyone tell me what pressure I should inflate them to? or should I set them to the same as the standard fitment?

thanks Mike

Depends on what you want from the tyres.

longer life with a bit of a sacrifice in grip, run high pressures. ie 5 psi above normal. it worked for me, two up and heavily loaded.

More grip, less life - hard riding lower tyre pressures. 3-5 psi below normal.

Nothing on the sidewall of the tyre ? ie max pressures ?? prob not as you are asking.

XT600 Tire Pressures - Above Standard?

I run mine higher than standard, front: 1.9 (1.5) bar, rear: 2.4 (2.25) bar. I find this improves on road handling. Off road I usually drop them both to about 1.25 bar, or lower depending on load and surface.

Remember as you load the bike and the climate and/or road conditions change you will need to adjust your tyre pressures according to get the best performance and wear.

But, its all about personal preference and these are only mine! ;)

For my 2003 XT600e I inflate to 21psi front and back solo or 28psi two up or fully loaded, as per the manual, with no problems.

I have the same tyres as zigzag, Ihad set them at rear 34psi front 30psi but found it to hard, I lowered them to rear 26 front 24 but am going to take them up to the same as zigzag and try that, I'll have to be quick as I've just sold the bike so am on the look out for another project.

Hi ZIGZAG, Thanks for the coments. I stripped it down to a bare frame, powder coated everything that need it, replaced all the bearings, brakes, etc, stripped the engine to replace fifth gear and found fourth badly worn so replaced that as well, reassembled it all the nose fairing, both side panels and rear mud guard were resprayed, I matched the white to a nissan shade as the yamaha paint was £80 litre, the nisan ws £20,then mot'd last week. I put it on ebay last thursday night and sold it yesterday for the buy it now price. There is an XT350 up for auction at the moment which needs a lot of work so Imay go after that
