tyre choice for 89 Tenere - West Africa to SA

Hi There,

I wondered if anyone had any suggestions for te best tyre choice for my bike. I will be riding London to Cape Town starting January. I would like a good balance of off road/on road performance and durability. I am looking for a dual purpose tyre. Please give me your opinions.

Cheers,

Tyre Choice

Hi - On my XT 600e I have been using Conti Twinduro's for the past four years - not the same ones!!! They give excellent grip on tarmac and have been really good on the limited offroad stuff I have done - especially soft ground but good on stony surfaces too. They do wear faster than the original Trail Wings I had but the bike handles so much better on the Contis even with the Knobbles!
I would certainly use them for any trip with an off road element.

Cheers - have a great trip when you go.

Dave.

Tyres tyres tyres???...@@@%&*!!

Same problem here!
Put conti tkc 80s on my 86XL600 but think I have made the wrong choice.
I think the trip will be a load more tar road that we would want.
I have bought a spare rear metzeler endure 3 sahara which I am hoping to be a little better. My concern is the mud later on the route??
So I have initially: Conti tkc 80 front
Met endure 3 rear
And taking conti tkc 80 rear spare.

Anyone need a 138/80 tube type Metzeler enduro 3 sahara cheap?
My bike is tubeless!!

Michelin T63

They wear relatively slowly for a knobbly (15.000 from a rear when you push it), when inflated to 2 bar front and 2.2 bar rear, are good on dry loose surfaces, good on wet and dry asfalt. And, as most except the real motocross tyres, sh*t in mud.
