Thanks for the tip guys. Ill raise the needle and see how it works out.
Im starting the rebuild tonight, cant wait to start her up. Its actually snowing here now, so it doesnt feel so bad having her apart... |
And its running...
Had my first 70km on her today.
Took me two long evenings to assemble it all, all I had to do today was to connect the battery and put the seat on. Didnt start her up last night because it was very late, so I did it this morning before work, I just couldnt wait :innocent: It purrs like a kitten, it was lovely to hear:clap: Was a bit paranoid at first, waiting for something to happen, like I should have forgot some nuts and bolts in there, but nope...hehe Raised the needle one step, and it doesnt seem to bee so hot. It used to "smell hot" when stopping, but not anymore. The engine is nice and tight too, only minor leaks from the oilfilter vent-screw and a delivery pipe, but thats an easy fix.. Now I look forward to a long season and many km`s :mchappy: Thanks for all help guys :thumbup1: Osmund |
Hi Osmund and congrats on a good rebuild,I don,t know if you have seen my question on the piston rings but maybe you can help? Which position does the piston ring with the non square profile go?...hope you can help......
|
Piston rings...
well as I didnt remove the rings, I dont know, but Ive looked it up in the Clymer-manual and it should be on top.
Quote from Clymer; "On xt600 models, the top and middle piston rings are sligthly different. The middle ring`s outer surface is square and must be installed in the middle groove. The top ring is slightly tapered at the outer surface and must be installed in the top groove." Hope that helps Osmund |
well I did not expect that,I would have put the square one top most !! thanks for the quick reply and I ll let you know if my rebuild all goes well...
