twisted stearing xtz660

ok , ive got a weird problem, ive been rebuilding my xtz660 after it was run over by a truck, i have replaced the front forks but not the tripple clamp, when i finally reasembled the bike , the stearing is off by about 3cm (one fork infront of the other ), forks are straight so im wondering if it is possible to warp the tripple clamp..
any info or advice desperate wanted, this rebuild is going on far too long...12 months and counting....grrrrrrr.....

warped forks

You didn't say if the difference was at the bottom (axle end of the forks). If it is put the forks just thru the bottom triple clamp without the top triple clamp. Then grap the forks and push and pull till they align with the top clamp and so the axle will slide thru. This works for small deflections but beware if parts are overstressed or develop cracks and fall off. Also check your front wheel axle by intalling the wheel and before tightening the nut rotate the axle and watch the wheel to see if it moves denoting a bent axle. Good luck with your project.
