Twin/triple-piston caliper for 3AJ?
Hi again
Klaus, you may be able to help with this one... I'm putting 17-inch wheels on my 3AJ for road touring, and while I'm at it thought it would be useful to upgrade the disc to a fully-floating 320mm and replace the standard weak one-pot front caliper with something with more bite. I think I've got the disc sorted, however the caliper is more of a problem. Because of non-existant clearance on the wheel side of the caliper, only a single-sided caliper will fit. However, aftermarket 3 and 4-pot single-sided calipers cost a packet (not including the master cylinder!), so I'm looking for a standard big twin or even triple-pot to graft on using a fabricated mount. Because of the clearance issue, I think only wire-wheeled donor bikes will do (Cagiva Elefant, XTZ750, others?) Anyone done this before? Any suggested donor bikes? Before you say it, yes I could be spending this money on a couple of months in India but, as I said to my girlfriend - it's my money to waste! Cheers Barry |
you can use the twin-cylinder caliper of a xt600 3tb/4pt or xtz660. don't know the caliper of xtz750.
of course you will need an adapter to fit it to the fork. regards klaus |
Cheers Klaus, I have had a re-think and am now considering installing both twin-pot calipers from an XTZ onto my new disc. I will still have to make up a bracket, however this approach has the advantage of using an existing caliper/master cylinder combination. The result will be a slightly over-braked bike, however with good road tyres and a full load I think I'll need it and be able to use it. Will have to be careful on the dirt, though!
Will post photos and let you know how I get on. Cheers for the reply. Barry |
