Thanks Jens.

Yes have been corresponding with Kedo who list the piston kit, sleeve and gasket for all XT600E's but the manufacturer Wiseco UK ans USA and many stockists said it is only for 1984 to 1996.

Even if it will fit my bike the crankcase will need machining, both Kedo and Wiseco say that.

Jens Eskildsen 15 Jun 2010 21:18

The engine from 1990 and up should be the same afaik.

Yeah, i actually do remember something with haveing to machine the crankcase.

Sounds like a lot of work.

Yeah.. Just get the XR650R.. That's what I did ! It's a big powerful beast to start with :)

No way as comfortable or smooth as the XT though.

Jens Eskildsen 16 Jun 2010 15:51

Bah, you traitors! Get away from yamaha tech

bergspre 19 Jun 2010 01:18

Interesting subject.
Would it be possible to get a standard size piston but just with more compression? And would it be worth it compared to a +1mm piston

Jens Eskildsen 19 Jun 2010 18:09

Im fairly sure that wiseco makes std bore pistins with higher compression, and I beleive they can be bought from Kedo.

bacardi23 20 Jun 2010 21:08

Yup.. Wiseco makes the standard piston for the XT with 12:1 compression (stock is 9:1 or 9.5:1...) that I'm certain off!

Vando :cool4:

bergspre 21 Jun 2010 11:22

Cool, kedo has 11.5:1 wiseco piston 95.0 mm :D

Do you have to take out the engine to switch piston? Do you have to do something to the valves?

I have only done piston changes on 50cc 2-strokes before,never on 4-strokes.

Tom, what are you looking for price wise for a ported head and how much difference does it make to a standard setup?

Mark
