Ttr600re clutch cable
 

Hi.
Does anyone know where I can get a clutch cable for a ttr600re. It's an electric start bike and the cable bends around behind the starter motor.

The main yamaha dealer fisches list it as discontinued, neither Kedo or Wemoto list them.

Off to Spain for 10 days in a few weeks, and although the cable on the bike seems ok, I'd like a spare to take just in case.

might be worth lookin at the older xt600 pre 1990'ish i think they also went through where the starter is, long shot but you never know

So i've ordered a cheapy from ebay for £8, and a geniune one from fowlers just to be on the safe side (bloody expensive)

There is a post on here about fitting the longer cable, and having to adapt it with cable ties though.

The other option is to take your cable off and send it off to someone like Venhill. They will provide a new inner and outer.

If you can't get a suitable original cable the simplest/ lightest / cheapest emergency clutch cable is to take a bicycle brake inner cable and a screw on nipple (both available any bicycle shop almost anywhere in the world). Then if the original inner wire fails on the trip simply pull it out from the outer and slide this in its place. Then use the screw on nipple at the bottom end to get the length right.

This trick has got me out of trouble several times. They are a lighter wire than the original so don't last for ever, but on a long trip where I had no chance to get a proper replacement I found each bicycle wire lasted about 5000km before I needed to swap it for a new one.

from my experience, 80% of cases it's an inner one which fails, so I learned to carry spare inner cable with one open end, plus something like this -

when open end is not torn away and hose is healthy and oiled enough, cable with the same thickness (2.5mm, as I remember) fits quite easy from the both side. if it gets harder, I try to spin cable to proper direction with light push (hard push might damage both parts) and that's all.
My butt has also been saved couple times using this trick :)

Agree with the above. I carry spare inner cable and a few different nipples as part of my trail tools/spare parts. Takes up just about no space.

Found one on ebay, came from a Dutch bloke.
The one on my bike is fine right now, but we're away for 10 days in Spain soon, and if it lets go its game over. So I have a brand new spare just in case.
I've always just zip tied the spare to the existing cable, takes up no room and is already threaded through in the right place should I need to change it.
