TT600RE...ignition lock

After finally sorting a few niggling issues I tried to start her only to find the ignition key refused to turn...at all.

So I now need a 'new' one plus key.

Anyone know what will fit or have one for sale?..

Hi.
Not sure how the tt ignition lock differs from mine (xt600 2003) but i dismantled mine totally, cleaned and filed a couple of things. Put it back together and it works like new. Wasnt totally stuck like yours but awkward to turn . I had nothing to lose by trying this because the bottom of the ignition ( the bit that locks the steering when parked) was broken from a theft attempt. Not the answer to your question but hope it helps

Appreciate the reply ..I have taken the lock off and apart. Cleaned it up and filed the key etc but its still locked soild.

On the ttre the lock sits on the right hand side of the headstock,so the main body of the ignition locks captive in that area/sandwiched between the headstock.

I'm wondering if ii were to get another lock/barrel if that would fit in the original housing?...hmmmmm

I have a TT600RE. I know what you're on about.

I imagine a generic lock would be hard to find. You might end up having to get a genuine one.

But lots of things on the TT are now obsolete. And if not, then expensive.

You could remove the stock barrel and put one in near the dash on the plate. Or put a secret switch somewhere on the bike.

Remember, the ignition barrel is nothing more than a switch.

tbh, I think the original system is crap. Stupid idea by Yamaha. It gets in the way of tank bag straps and its hard to use with the Acerbis tank etc.

I have looked for a replacement barrel...new £250!!!...second hand one in Germany.

I'm thinking that maybe a barrel itself from another lock would fit into the original housing...

Turns out that the problem was a worn key...it was actually going into the barrel too far.

new key hunt now.

Anyone able to tell/show the orientation of the lower plastic plate that provides the on/off/lights etc?

I put it back together in the only way I can see it 'should' go but it leaves the lights on all the time, even without the key being in position...

Sorted....two new keys for £9.00 c/o Timpsons.

after the total faff of trying to source a new lock set and then finding out it was a worn key would you believe I found my spare today?..
it was in the seal in the washing machine!!!
