Tips for kick starting a tenere

I bought a '83 Tenere yesterday but have problems kick starting it. I am 82kg so I should have enough weight to do it.
I used to have an old Harley Davidson that was twice the engine size yet twice as easy to start. The trick there was to have the “hardest” part at about 12:00 to 2:00 o’clock and jump down hard to 6:00 o’clock. However, someone told me that with the Tenere, I shouldn’t have the hardest part at 2:00 o’clock. I was told the secret is once it is hard at 2:00 o’clock, to then push down slowly once all the way and on the next stroke jump like all hell with a bit if choke.
What are your tips for starting a Tenere?

the xt600 is equipped with an automatic decompression device. if this device is properly adjusted you should be able to kick-start the bike even with your hand, no problem.
there is no big secret behind, just kick down slowly until the end, then let the lever come up again, now kick with force (again, completly down).
apply full choke if she is cold. don't touch the throttle until she runs idle.
after long standing time drain the carb first.
she should start after 2 or 3 kicks latest.
if not, something is wrong / not good adjusted.
how to adjust decompression cable?
this is described in the clymers repair manual, buy it!! very recommandable.
good luck,
klaus
