Timing marks on the engine??

Hi Guys, i want to check/adjust the valve clearance on my tenere 1vj model, I would just like some clarification on a point before I go ripping in there are royally messing something up.

In my clymers manual it shows timing marks on the (flywheel ?) as a line with a T next to it.........now on the flywheel there are various marks including single line, double line and dots. Am I being stupid about this and the manual put the T there just to highlight the fact we use the single line as a marker ? or am I missing something?

Cheers, looking forward to getting this back on the road....

My manual shows a 'H' type symbol, I think as long as you are on the compression stroke, and TDC, you should be OK.

Just to confuse the issue, I remember that H to be a capital letter T on its' side with the timing mark next to it, thereby "underlining" the sideon T!

:eek3::rofl: come to think of it, yes, maybe you are right! so the timing mark would be the right hand leg of the 'H' then...... just shows you how often I check mine :blushing:.........

so you guys do have the T or H on the flywheel and not just in the manual.............bugger. I,m sure I am at TDC.......I do get movement but its so slight on the rockers..I dont know how much to expect.I guess we will find out

Timing marks

Hi blackjack,

Yes, the marks are definitely there on the 3AJ engine in the TT600R, as per post 63 in here:-
http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...ht=oil+channel

They can be quite hard to see when covered in oil, seen through the tiny window and in poor light BTW.

There is no need to read the whole sorry story in that mammoth thread!
