Tenere 34L oil Leak

1 Attachment(s)
I recently bought an 1985 Tenere thats had a recent engine rebuild. Its running well but loses a small amount of oil.
I plan to service and maintain the bike myself but im a complete beginer and the XT600 seems a great bike to learn with.
The oil is leaking from two places as far as I can see :
1) from one of the vertical bolts on the right side of the cylinder head cover.
I have tried tightening this but the head just turns. I guess that I'll try a new bolt and re-thread the hole.
2) From around the edges of one of the two timing hole covers. At least I think its a timing hole cover, They are on the right side of the cylinder head cover. Each has a slot in it and an internal thread. I have tried to loosen the leaking cover with a screw driver but it hasn't budged, I'd like some advice as to whether Im doing the right thing before I apply any more force, I think maybe an internal seal needs replacing.
Thanks for your patience with an absolute beginer

Pete

A few ideas

Hi Pete and :welcome: !

I know what you mean by absolute beginner!

I suggest you take a look at a post I made back in June under Other Bikes tech:-

http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...al-stuff-27640

It gives some good general advice, including about stripped threads. Apart from that, do a search in the HUBB here for any key words of interest and it will give you lots of other threads (no pun!) to read.

You also need to get a workshop manual for your bike to do any useful work on it; correct torques etc will all be in there.
