Tankslapper

Anyone had any experience with a tankslapper?

quastdog 15 May 2008 22:20

Any Fix?

Did you get a fix or diagnosis from a dealer, or is there a recommended Yamaha Factory Tech fix and or diagnosis for this?

Under what circumstances did it occure ?

Loaded ?

Speed ?

I've had a couple of serious "brown trouser" tank slappers in the past on different bikes but luckilly they sorted themselves out and didn't spit me off.

One was coming down from a rather good wheelie.

The other was when I had both hands off the bars and the front wheel started to shimmy then went lock to lock.

The first one was pilot error, the second was caused by an out of balance front wheel.

flat front tire on a straight, level, gravel road at about 60mph, fully loaded 3 weeks into the start of this trip.

But BYT - VonnieV is being a smartass by posting this (first post, same day he subscribes is the first tipoff), so I was just being a smartass in return, not that I expected to get into a discussion of tankslappers.

quastdog,

Did I miss something ?

Am I the slow brained idiot at a party who just doesn't get the joke :(

quastdog 16 May 2008 19:36

well I don't know you, and wouldn't dare call you a slow brained idiot without meeting you first, but I'm pretty sure VonnieV is trolling this here HUBB.

:clap:I believe it's definition in the Oxford dictionary reads
"Refer to 1997 Suzuki TL1000s prior to recall for fitting of steering damper"
Oh boy, was That an exciting few months !!!!
I've never known a bike so eager to go off on one......

Is that the same as "having" a slapper on the tank ?
