Swingarm & shock linkage assembly on a 4PT?

I have removed my swing arm for repainting, and on re-assembly, it became clear that it is different to the parts microfiche, I have definitely have not lost any parts, and I'd like to know if it has been rebuilt at some point, or if this is normal for my bike from the factory.

I have an XT600E 4PT model from 2002.

1. I have a gap between the swingarm and the engine block which seems an invitation for water to get into the swingarm bearings. The workshop manual shows a rubber seal to go in here. Ronayers.com parts microfiche does not show a rubber seal. Should I have this rubber seal?

2. I only have one shock linkage bolt equipped with a grease nipple, the one that bolts to the frame. The next bolt and the bolt through the swingarm centre, are both just standard solid hi-tensile bolts. Should I have grease nipple bolts on a 4PT?

3. As you can see from the photo, my swingarm itself is missing the holes and grease nipples. Should a 4PT have these?

4. I am missing a couple of seals from the front sprocket end of the swingarm pivot, though my chain slider seems to clip on in the place that they would go.

The gap,

The exploded diagram from the manual

The parts microfiche from Ronayers.com that doesn't have that rubber seal, it shows the bearing which the one above doesn't show. The one above is a misprint maybe?

I think you are looking at the parts diagram for an earlier model, 3TB at the latest. I have a 4PT and a 3TB and there are differences.

1. The grease nipples on the swingarm and most of the linkage joints are NOT found on the 4PT.

2. The rubber seals on the inside of the swingarm where the motor mounts are mainly internal to the swingarm tubes, only a small section is visible when they are pushed in correctly. I also puzzled about the gap but they all seem to be like that.

3. The part you have identified as a seal around the swingarm on the chain side is a chain roller. It is a hard plastic piece around a steel ring which is a loose fit over the outer seal of the swingarm. The 4PT has a much longer polyurethane chain slider which does this job instead.

Have a look in the stickies at the top of the yamaha tech page for a 4PT parts diagram, I'll post the link if you can't find it.

Here it is:

Choose the English version for 2001 even though the diagrams are the same!

Alistair, I owe you a beer sometime! You've put my mind at rest about the gap (though I will be taking the swingarm off for re-greasing much more regularly now I know about it!) and that parts microfiche will come in really useful. Thanks v much
