Strange sound from right side of the engine.

Hello fellows!

While out for a blast today on my TTR600 2003 i noticed a strange grinding sound. Luckily I was close to home so I pushed the bike back and brought it into the garage for a closer inspection.

Nothing was missing, everything was nice and tight, so I decided to call a friend who's a car mechanic and see what he thought before consulting my local bike shop or/and the Hub.

Unfortunately he couldn't see anything and we both wondered if something had caught up into the wheel to make the sound so we kick started it and the noise started again, it was a loud ticking coming from the (if you're sat on the bike) right had side casing. It sounded horrible so we switched the bike off and both scratched our heads..

Anyone know what it might be?

Some more information: I was going down hill at great speed it seemed not to want to go its usual full potential. It also rides not problem even with the noise. Gears seemed stiffer although that could of just been the trainers I was wearing (I usually wear boots but I took it for a light ride to dry it off after I washed the bike to ready it to be sprayed with various oils/etc.

Thank you, as it's an easy look I'll investigate it when I've got some spare time. It didn't sound at all like that sound, much more consistent and higher sound.

I suggest not riding it until you have checked it, we saved another engine last week on a similar thread, he heard the noise & low & behold it was a loose nut & worn key.

Mezo.

Thanks Mezo, I'll make sure to keep you updated weather or not it's another one of these problems. Many many thanks for taking the time to do the write up.
