thanks for the reasurance guys, i figured that it was turning the engine over when it did it but it came as a bit of a surprise when it happened as i wasnt expecting it.
I understand what every one is saying that it needs a quick shock to free it as with a windy gun so think that is as good as excuse as any to get myself that compressor and air tools that ive always wanted!!

Totally useless information now im afraid, but for future reference, ALWAYS losen any hi torque nuts & bolts before you start stripping down.

Sprocket nuts, axel nuts, clutch and alternator bolts all come to mind.

... brake pad retaining pins ...

The manual tells you to do this, but I never remember till it's all on the bench.
