starter clutch jammed

Hi my XT6003AJ is at the mechanics as it kept cutting out after running for 10 minutes or so, it would usually restart stright away using the electric start only to cut out sometimes stright away sometimes after a couple of minutes
Been told that the starter clutch is stuck on
Is this likley to cause the bike to cut out?
I have not got a price for a new starter clutch as was to late in the day to call Yamaha.
Any one know the price of a starter clutch?
I have a spare bottom end 3AJ engine is it worth using the starter clutch from this engine.
I dont think this is the only problem with my bike but mechanic wants to sort the starter clutch first.
What you think
Thanks

starter clutch problems

Hi
I had a problem with a worn starter clutch bearing on a 1VJ model i had. I don't think that this is the problem with your engine cutting out ,unless the engine, when it stops, it stops suddenly and with a bang because it would engage the starter if it did cut in with the engine running. my 1vj used to stop and lock solid when i tried to kickstart it, it made a loud bang when it did it, you can test if it is the bearing by removing the 2 gears in between the starter clutch main gear and the starter motor.put the side casing back on and bump start the bike and then see if it cuts out.I found a secondhand bearing for mine , a new one i think was around 120 pounds. check the side stand switch .
Disconnect the 2 wires from theside stand switch to the loom.
Then connect the 2 wires from the loom together, This will bypass the switch This could be the problem. hope this helps .Good luck

Thanks for reply Orange
I dont think the starter clutch is the problem of my engine cutting out but mechanic wants to fix that first. I hope to use the starter clutch from a spare engine if a new one is £120.
The side stand switch has been removed allready along with the clutch switch I have changed just about everything on this bike trying to sort this problem and decided I would rather pay some one else to fix it.

IF the starter clutch is sticking on, then the starter motor will get very hot, very quickly as it will be being turned by the engine, and it is not designed for this.
Remove the L/H engine case and try to move the large, thin gear behind the flywheel. It should be solid 1 way and free-running the other. If it does not spin freely one way, it is not working correctly.
