starter clutch help!

hey all

I have tried every moto and bearing shop in Quito Ecuador and its not possible to get this starter clutch 1VJ-15590-00 or the two cylindrical bearings for the starter Gear 93310-530R5 (yamaha 3Aj 89 tenere). I rang the biggest yamaha parts store in Chile and they would need to import it from japan - 30 days. Yamaha Colombia is getting back to me in the morning but I dont think they will have it if Santiago Chile doesnt. I have only about 30 days left in south America . .

I have tried to find these parts online in the states but all the sites I find only seem to have kickstart xt600 parts - does anybody know if the starter clutch for electric start xt600s/teneres 1986 - 1990 are available in the states ?

The parts are available in england and holland but apart from being crazy expensive I am not sure if they will ship from there - alot of companies wont ship because so much goes missing here - is it different/safer with courier - anybody ever get parts shipped/couriered over here from europe before?

Finally ... is there maybe anyone out there who might have an old/seized/broken/spare engine of this kind who would be willing to pull and ship me the starter clutch and bearings?

running out of ideas .:stormy:.. any new ones most welcome ..

thanks all

Kickstart?

Can you find a written-off bike with kickstart? If so, it's easy to install. That'll solve your starting problem. The electric start you can then repair later.

parts

thanks guys
impossible to source xt for breaking here, emailed all the breakers in uk too but no joy. Couldnt find these parts listed on wemoto. Flitwick in the uk have but wont ship here. The dutch company CMS (cmsnl.com) have the starter clutch for 167 euro and 46 euros for the two bearings, add 50 for courier and thats close on 400 dollars and probably a week to deliver.

Just to ask once more does anybody know if there is a company in the states that would stock this part or is everything kickstart over there for these years 86 - 90.

The only point of confusion for me with the CMS site is that they call this starter clutch/one way assembly 1VJ-15590-00 a ´´STARTER CHAIN GUIDE A ´´. Part numbers are the same but this is a bit confusing . ..

Any thoughts?

thanks all

Yes

The yamaha partnumber system is waterproof. Somebody just gave it a strange name: that's a bookkeeper doing the work of an engineer.
You can btw cross check by looking at the exploded views they also have on the site.
I found one for a 3TB model, saying the clutch has number 3TB-15590-01, this means that the part is the same, they just changed the prefix of the number.

Good luck

hmm

hey Auke

I have been in touch with yamaha tenere club in Brasil - thay are helping me to get these parts - europe would take over 2 weeks. Below is some replys ive had from them where they talk about different engine blocks - have you heard of this before?

BECOUSE WE HAVE 3 MODELS OF ENGINE HERE, THAT WE KNOW LIKE 2TY , 2VG AND 4MW A PART FROM 66 MODEL. LAST MAY WE SAW ONE TÉNÉRÉ FROM A GERMAN GUY AND THAT ENGINE WAS 4MW WHILE FOR US COULD BE 2TY OR 2VG. http://www.forumxt600.com.br/forum/i.../icon_wink.gif

THE PARTS THAT YOU NEED ARE THE SAME FOR 2TY AN 2VG BUT DIFERENT FOR 4MW http://www.forumxt600.com.br/forum/i.../icon_wink.gif .

and this reply here ...

part number: 93310-530R5 "the bearings" for us is 93310-530C7 . They are the same for all models from 2TY until 4MW

Now, part number: 1VJ-15590-00(yours) = "starter clutch" for us is the same part number for 2TY and 2VG but, to 4MW is 3TB-15590-01 .

Thats it
Out of curiosity - Any ideas - my engine block is 3AJ ... ? I havent heard of these others before.

thanks

they share a common number..

the 15590 bit is the same, the prefix is different, and the 01 or 00, suffix is different on starter clutch. the bearings have a suffix of R5 or C7 the "part number" seems the same.
Im no expert but im sure Auke and anyone else reading this would agree with me......They are the VERY LIKELEY same parts I would be 99% certain.

( this is only my personal opinion as an outsider involved in your predicament only by being a HUBB member and a concerned fellow biker but I feel pretty sure they would be OK, Mind you Fella, if im wrong......theres plenty of people on here that will tell me!:innocent:)

HOPE ALL GOES WELL

Real life ....

s*cks, never easy.
I have no means to check the American / South American parts numbers against the European numbers ..

Two options:
1. Order the parts for the Brasilian bikes, they are, as stated in last post, 99% the same. Yamaha doesn't change a winning design, only the part numbers.
2. Order both different sets so for yours and for the Brasilian bike

Option 1 gives you 99%, option 2 99,9%. Now it depends on cost and level of panic whether you go for option 2.

Best of luck!

more hmmm ...

thanks guys
- i think im pretty safe with starter clutch number - stll waiting for final response from yam shops here in brasil.

Got an email from flitwick and fowlers ( both big yam parts stores in UK) saying that they can have order in the starter clutch ( one week) but the bearings are discontinued ???

Not replaced by another part - just discontinued ! Whats that about ?

Also - I examined the old starter flywheel bearings on the crankshaft again yesterday and can quite confidently say that they are the wrong size! There is that much movement that the inner circumference seems to be at least a mm out if not more. Its not wear - its just plain wrong ! When i compare how the bearings for the two other connecting cog´s shafts ( connecting to the starter motor ) slip on ... the difference is startling ...

I got the crankshaft ¨straightened 2000 kms ago¨ I didnt see the process as I wasnt there that day but am I right in presuming that the crankshaft was planed in order to correct it? Is it possible that too much was taken off and thus since that day the loose starter flywheel bearings were causing the starter flywheel to clatter into my starter clutch until it rendered it in - operable?

???????

Any suggestions if when I get this new starter clutch and bearings that i find that the new bearings are as ill fitting as the old ones ?

thanks guys

engine info

seems to be 2TY is tenere xtz600 for year 88 and 89
2VG is tenere xtz600 for years 90, 91 ,92, 93
4MW is xt600E from 92 to 2004

found most of this on a brazilian site - I´m presuming that they had different model changes/years to Yamaha Japan.
