Speedo and Tach XT600

Hi everyone. So on my newest to me 88 XT600, the speedo & tach plexi is letting moisture inside the two compartments. It gets so bad, I can't even see what the dials say, as water collects on the inside of the glass.
I removed the speedo & tach tonight in hopes of taking the glass out and cutting my own and replacing them. However, I'm now stuck. I can't seem to find a way to get inside the damn things. They look like they are all one piece. Is there a trick to get to the glass in these things?
Thank you for any pointers.

I have a 89 and the speedo is glued down to the base with some good glue. I took mine apart to correct a 15mph error. Is your odometer knob rubber seal shot, letting in the water? Maybe a few vent holes would help to allow the moisture an exit point.

Hi Steve, so it's good glue..I see, thanks for pinpointing it. Both plexis are badly cracked so I believe water gets in through the cracks. I'm thinking instead of trying to unglue the things, I'll just break the glass, cut my own and install the new pieces. It's crazy enough that it might just work. Thanks

I think that will work! I had another brand bike with round guages that had crazed lenses. I used a hole cutter to remove the old lenses, and made some new ones out of plexi and glued them in with clear RTV silicone. It looked and worked well, couldnt tell it had been done.

i replaced the speedo lens by breaking the lens and removed the old glue with a mini drill (dremel) its very :censored: hard glue, i fitted the new lens i made on a thin bead of silicone and some epoxy glue.
the rev counter was like new so didn't touch that one :thumbup1:

had a funny experiance a few weeks later when a lens poped out at about 70 mph  when i stopped to take a propper look i PMSL it was the rev counter lens that had self destructed so i had to do that one after all :blushing:
