Ok its a given that the XT being a big single will be vibey very , after doing 50 miles on it the other night I felt tingly feet any ideas as to how to reduce this? , ie rubbers on the foot pegs? (I have those spikey off road ones that are 100% metal) .

Auke, if the mixtures out does it make the vibes worse then?

mine vibrates real bad over 3000 rpm but I'm putting this down to its need of a rebore and suspect pitted gears....

hello i found my xt to be ok on my feet but my hands seem to go numb/asleep and i have to take each one off the handle bars when safe ie when at traffic lights for the throttle hand or riding along for the left one any ideas on this as well would be appreciated thank you.

Wrong mix is one of the many causes but definately possible.

A worn 5th gear or piston will not cause extra vibration.

Also check the tank mounts; if there is metal to metal contact between tank and frame that will also create resonances.

But all starts with a smooth engine.

Ask your doctor if you might have carpal tunnel syndrome. I get exactly the same symptoms, and that's what my doc diagnosed. The median nerve going through the wrist gets inflamed and swells, and it makes the hand, and especially the thumb and first two fingers, tingle and go numb. I get it with every bike, but it has been worst on the XT (and the 660R I used to have) and best on the super-smooth Pan Euro. But it's always there, and I never have a problem with numb feet. There is an operation to cure it, but the recovery time is 6 weeks without driving a car - she didn't even mention bikes - so I decided to live with it.

The effect can be lessened by keeping a very loose grip on the bars, and occasionally dropping the hand to the side and crunching the fingers a few times.

Perhaps the problem is with you, rather than the bike :(
