After years of sticking with a twin cylinder Yam xs motor and constant running probs i decided to take a gamble and fit an XT motor (3 aj). The fitting was carried out by Lee Peck in Steventon who did a great job.The motor pulls very hard and feels good. I need to sort gearing and play around with the airfilter set up to get it competitive for next season..Only one quetion, Would the motor benefit from running a single carb????YDIS seems a bit fiddly to me.....

I was going to fit a single carb on my XT600E but ended up just fitting the raptor 660 dual carb setup instead because there just isn't enough space to fit the single carb on the stock frame.

I even bought the parts needed for the setup just to find out I didn't have enough clearance for them to fit on to the frame (due to the rear shock).

I still have them if you want.

Hi Vando , Cheers for the response. I'm interested in the the parts let me know wat you have and the price.I have plenty of room on the sidecar to fit it the chassis is huge...

How does the bike compare though when up against KX500 and modern 4stroke 450 mx engines ?

I race it in the classic class as the the wasp chassis is from 1979 with airbag suspension.I race against xs 1000 , 920 Norton, 600 rotax etc it feels competitive against them.It would be no match for a Cr or Kx 500 in the power stakes unless it was very wet...I'm looking forward to developing it further for next season...

You could bung on a YMF660 Grizzly intake matched up to say a TM40 flatside, or a 40mm Keihin FCR MX (if you have the room)

Does that manifold fit the 3aj? I did have the part number for it, room is not an issue. I am starting to think single carb is the way to go......

bacardi23 16 Oct 2011 04:34

Yes they fit...

Actually that's exactly what parts I have.
Grizzly 660 intake and a Mikuni BST40 and intake-to-carb rubber boot.

Sorry, didn't have internet for a few days..

If you're still interested I can take some pictures of the parts I have...

Found and "old" one on my imageshack...

http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/1...c02787y.th.jpg Uploaded with ImageShack.us

1- Grizzly 660 2-into-1 carb link
2- Connection rubber boot
3- Mikuni BST40 (sorry, can't see it properly in that picture

nonetheless that picture was taken to show how much I'd have to bring the rear shock top mount further back so the carb setup would fit the frame...

I'm gonna take some pics later tonight as I'm waiting for the camera to charge.....
