Seat Alterations

Hi all, after doing some long rides I am finding the seat on my 2003 XT a bit of a pain in the arse after 100 miles or so. I have looked at the Corbin seat which looks great but from other threads I believe it is not available for my XT. I have also considered the airhawk seat and other aftermarket pads, the problem I have is that I am only short and cannot increase the seat height without making the bike unsafe for me to ride. Can anyone suggest anything??? There was a company just down the road who altered seats but has sadly now closed! Any advice would be great. I live in West Sussex so any companies recommended would have to be in the UK.

I use an Airhawk. It only needs to be inflated enough to raise your backside off the saddle - a centimetre or less will do it. I find it makes a world of difference to long distance comfort and recommend it, though I am annoyed at having to remove it when parking up.

GEL saves your ass from HELL

Firstly either find an upholsterer that has done work on bike seats or a custom bike builder.
secondly, get them to remove an inch and a half or whatever of the foam from your seat and replace it with a dacron wrapped gel pad. the dacron is softer than foam and is what is used in cushions and settees etc ( make sure you show them EXACTLY where on the seat you want it, we all sit in different places on our bikes. what was good for me, was not good for my mate, and vice versa.
your bum bones will be forever grateful and you will no longer walk as if you need a bucketful of preparation H.
I did just this on both my XV1600 wildstar and my Super Tenere and the difference was life changing!
cost? about £60 but it would have been worth double that! the Tenere went from being a "90 mile before i need to stop desperately or im gonna die" type of saddle to a "oh, is that the reserve tank running out of fuel already??" type of bike.......

I think Corbin do do one, but whether it's for your model I am not sure. Check here...

corbin nice, but really exspensive!

PLUS, the only corbin seat I have had that was worth having was the one on my K series BMW, so comfortable 1000 mile days were a easily achieveable.
sorry to say have tried a corbin for an XT600 and it wasnt as good as the Gel insert seat I had made up by an upholsterer.
just my own view you understand......your bum may feel differently.:scooter:
