Replacing plastic swing arm bushes
 

Hi all,

Can anyone advise on the best way to replace the plastic bushes in a XT225 Serow's swing arm.

I am concerne that if I drift them in I may distort them, the diameter of the inner hole closed up whem the originals were drifted out.
Would pulling them in using a long bolt, nut and big washers be the best method?
Also, would putting them in the freezer make them too brittle?

and the bolt method should work, I have used a hydraulic press in the past, much easier! try an engineers shop.. they will usually charge you a couple of beers to fit em...... :thumbup1:

hi there it is always better to press or pull bushs in if at all possibal ,the same go,s for nedle roller bearings ,lube them up and make sure they are going in square .i dont think putting them in the freezer is a good move ,if they were steel ok but not plastic. hope all go,s well . zigzag

If i remember correctly.. the Plastic bushes in the Serow are a pain in the arse and are forever needing replacing.
Maybe an engineer could make you some Phosphor Bronze ones on a lathe, crossdrilled to allow lubeing, and then add a grease or oil nipple on the swing arm.... should last longer..

unless....... you get them machined out of Poly, there are some VERY hard plastics out there that are actually harder than steel, and will not not wear.

Gunmetal works well.

Make them once with an oil groove, drill a hole in the housing for oil, and you'll have something that will last at least 75000 km.
