Replacing Ignition on 1986 XT600 (Lost Key)

Hi,

My keychain broke and I lost the one and only key for my 1986 XT600. I'm assessing options. This replacement is on Ebay and looks like it should be a simple swap, but just wondering if anyone could point me in any other other directions? I'm bummed I will need to find a solution for my helmet lock too, but I just want to get out and ride as the weather's getting nice here in the PNW!

Thanks for any help!

Buy the ignition lock from Dave Lambeth (custardgrub) on ebay, his ignition switches are good & reasonably priced.

Then search "Motorcycle Universal Helmet Lock" they can either fit to your handlebar or a round part of your frame & they are cheap.

sounds like a real cluster f&*^..... guess from now on you WILL make spare keys, right?

now go stand in the corner for a while....

PS - a tip an old timer gave me:

make another key copy and cut off the "wings" of the key so that now you have a narrow, very long key.

place the key along a not so visible frame tube, grab some electrical tape and wrap around key and tube . you will now have a well concealed spare key for your RTW trip.
