Replacement Engine

I am looking for a replacement motor for my 1VJ, I would like a 1VJ one that has had some of the more reliable modifications done to it although this not important. I prefer the 1VJ motor as it has both electric start and kick start, however any later model motor (3AJ) will be considered. If you have a motor that you are wishing to sell or know where I may be able to buy one, then please contact me.

Thanks

Could some body tell me what the differences are between a 3UW/3TB motor and a 3AJ?

Thanks

I thought that the 1VJ was kick start only, some early 3AJ's were both and then became electric start only.

It is very straight forward to retro-fit kick start to the later engines up until the time that the clutch cable moved to the right hand side engine case, but these latest engines are reputed to have finally sorted 5th gear wear problems and generally have best reliability. Also, most likely to be low mileage and not stood around for years rusting on the inside.

Hence when I replace the engine in my very worn out 3AJ it will be with latest type.

See earlier posts on people doing this, ignition/alternator windings considerations and machining required to fit kick start (not necessary on clutch cable into left hand side engines)

Good luck

Hi, I replaced my worn out 1VJ engine (5th gear noise) with an 3AJ from an -94 XT-E.

It was a two-hour job to fit the engine, but a 20 week nightmare to figure out the wiring since I wanted to keep the original wiring for the bike.

Whatever you do, keep the alternator and the original 1VJ ignition system.

The bike and me has just been on a 6170km trip around europe and it runs like a charm!

Regards / R
