Repair Acerbis-tank

Hallo,

Due to a little tore I got in my XT600E Acerbis-tank I can only make it half full without loosing petrol. Does anyone here have any good tips for repairing an Acerbis-tank? Are there any reliable options? Or is the only solution to buy a new one? Thanks a lot for any hint!

I am not sure how big your tear is. If it is small try to drill it out and thread a bolt in it. drill the hole slightly smaller than the bolt, then screw it in with a gasket of some type and/or thread sealant. I have never tried this, but it might work. Look at how your petcock in put in to give you an idea. If you try this pull the tank off, empty the gas, then fill with water. The fumes may ingite from the electric motor of the drill so it is very important. Again I cant guarintee it will work or how long it will last, but as a last ditch effort it may get you by. The best solution would be to replace the tank. I have an IMS tank that is heavy duty and fits very well. Good luck and let me know how it worked.

Just go to a shop specialised in polyester and epoxy two-component stuff. They will be able to advise you on how to repair and what stuff to use. Any size hole can be repaired using glassfibre reinforced stuff.

I forgot to mention I would only do the above repair as a temporary fix. In something like a gas tank I would replace when I could.
