Remove clutch for kickstart return spring

Hello:
Another thread I have deals with starting my 88 XT 60o (Canada). Last time it was running about 2 years ago, my brother said once it started, it sounded like the kickstarter did not fully disengage and you could hear it clicking away inside the case. Once I do get the bike running, does anyone know if the return spring can be removed and replaced without removing the clutch? My Clymer manual does not deal with this specifically and the pictures seem to indicate the spring should be readily accessible for removal and installation.

Thanks

Hi,

I fitted a kickstart to my 3AJ a little while ago, and although I had the Clutch Basket off, I believe you will be able to deal with the return spring without removing the clutch okay.

Looking at figures 46-51 on pages 188-189 of the Clymer manual does appear to confirm this, with my recollections.

Hope this helps.

Geoff
