Rear tyre size question - 1VJ - TKC80s

Hi All,

In the final stages of prepping the bike for my East Africa overland bike trip - (Nairobi to CT) - just picked up some new TKC80s.

Question is this - the dealer said Continental don't do the 4.60 (18) rear - so gave me a 4.00 instead. It looks a little narrow. Should I change it for a 120/90 or a 140/90 (which Continental do do).

What size does everyone else use - and how important is width for overlanding?

Finding the various tyre sizes confusing. Feedback appreciated.

Thanks

Definately 120/90-18 if size is avaliable.

I run the tkc80 in a 140/80 it is huge I was scared it might not fit when I mounted it on the rim. Changed the stock gearing to 15/45 sprockets, 4200rpm@100kph but pulls well in 1st offroad. It is the only size I could get here in canada, I think the bemers use them.

Not too keen to mess with the sprockets (being a newby) - so going to change the tyre for the 120/90.

Thank for the advice
Paul
