I paid £1500 for my 2002 with 8300 miles on the clock 18 months ago.

The UK is a lot cheaper than Portugal for used bikes (though that is a good price, it's probably worth £2200 by the book), but importing into Portugal is a pain in the rrssss, and unless you are resident in Portugal it's impossible.

The bike can look good too, but the weather here, and the salt they put on the roads in winter, is hard on bikes. The frame underneath the seat and the swingarm around the shock, which you can't see from photos, could be rotten.

Mine was only surface rust that had broken away all the paint, all the welds are solid, but I rubbed it back and repainted it this week to prevent it getting any worse.

My swingarm linkages were also badly in need of a clean and re-grease, because off-road use here, means the bike spends a lot of time riding through water.

It's £1650... I paid £1800 for my almost new XT600E in 2007.

I think that's a fair price. It's low mileage.

Ralph: your's looks good!

I also cleaned the swingarm bits! and pressed new grease through the nipples a couple of years ago before the engine broke down (camchain got broken and bent both exhaust valves) and it's only about 400km old :P

Yup, Nowadays importing bikes from outside Portugal is indeed a pain the arse...
My XT was actully imported from the US back in 1994 or something..

Winter salt? how about living on a 98 sq kilometer island?! salt is airborne here lol :P

Yeah.. the guy lowered the offer down to 1650..

but like Ted mentioned, it looks like a fair price! :)

It does now I've spent several evenings lying on the garage floor! ;-)

haha.. wish I could do the same... I just don't have any new parts to fit bummer doh

-ralph- 11 Jun 2011 08:15

The only new part I'm fitting at the back is new disc and pads. I did it for peace of mind and to stop it getting worse. When the paint is bubbling and flaking with rust underneath it, you don't know how bad the rust underneath has got until you strip the paint off and start rubbing away the rust. But it was just surface rust and the integrity of the frame is good. Also wanted to re-grease all the swingarm and rear suspension and make sure it was all torqued properly. Cleaned everything before I put it back together too, so underneath the front sprocket cover is clean, the chain has had a parrafin bath, swingarm linkages shiny, etc, etc.

Oh, and I've bought stainless Motad downpipes and a Quill silencer for it too.
