re-torquing head bolts

Hi!

I'm finishing top end rebuild of my 2KF XT600 and have one dilemma.

Somewhere (I believe on the forum) I red that after a rebuild and some mileage traveled I need to re-torque bolts holding the head. The same thing said the guy from the machine shop where I brought head for a valve job.

The trouble is - I can't find at what mileage I need to do this. :(
Is something else that needs to be done too?

The cylinder was not bored nor rings changed because they were in good condition and within specification. The main reason for the rebuild was a leaking cylinder gasket.

Thank you!

:thumbup1:Hi, re-torque the bolts at 800kms (500miles), change the oil and filter at that mileage aswell. That,s what I did and everything seems ok.

OR

You can tighten them till they strip then back a quarter turn:nono:

LOL! BTDTGTTS :)

500 miles is the usual recommendation. The engine has gone through a few heat cycles in the period and things have settled down. Usually it's just a matter of nipping them up a small amount. But the mileage isn't critical.
