Re-spring / New spring on xt600 shock..

Hey, I've got a 2003 xt600e, and use it for a lot of ofrroad purposes, often things where the best choice would have been a little two-stroke, but I take priden in getting the xt through, and ride it home safe again.

I weigh 100-110kg with all the gear, and I've got the rear spring as tight as possible, the bike is raised 4-6cm with a little spaccer on the shock.

The shock doesn't bottom out at all, but I would like to get it a bit firmer, especially when taking jumps, or riding with the misses =) Not a heck of a whole lot really, but i thin it just needs that little something extra :thumbup1:

I believe it spossible to take the spring of the shock? And where do I buy a new shock spring that will fit both the bike and me.

Thanks in advance, any replies and comments is much appreciated.

Jens, Denmark.

Any decent motocross shop should be able to point you in the right direction for springs. I know a few places in UK, but not in Denmark!!!??
Most UJM shocks are set for a rider of about 90 kgs as standard, so work out what the full load of the bike is and the shock supplier will give you the right spring.

The local cross dealer would check fo me, but he was talking about prices above 200$ :eek3:

He would call me today, but hasn't....

Don't think I'll go down that road.:(

I would like to raise my bike seat height by 1-2 inches and was searching the old posts to see if anyone had done it already and found this post.

I took the stock silencer off (back on now) so it made fitting the header pipe easier and this made easy access to the shock absorber.

Can you tell me what you used for a spacer and where it went?

I never found anything about a new spring.

You can get a raiserkit on the german ebay, its called something with "heckhöherlegung" they are there from time to time.

Maybe I misunderstood what you wrote in your first post Jens where you said "the bike is raised 4-6cm with a little spaccer on the shock."

Did you add the spacer?

My shock is firm enough and I am not as heavy as you but a 4-6cm height increase would help.

The spaccer is the "heckhöher....." from the german ebay. Not exact at spaccer, just couldn't find the word for it.

You can see the difference in height here, mine is in the back:

Thanks Jens, that's just what I am looking for.
Did you find it affected the balance of the bike at all?

30 Euros including shipping is good.
The site seems to have one for exerything except the XT600E but I have emailed them to see which will fit my bike.

Nope, couldn't really tell any difference....

The only thing i noticed, was that im leaning more forward and have more weight on the handlebar, because og the angle on the seat. I only realised this recently.

The bike feels mor elike an offroader, and less as a tourer. It looks more agressive, and has more ground clearance.

Do you know what bike your heckhöherlegung was designed for?

I can find them on ebay and bikefarm for XT660Z or X, Teneres, super teneres but not the XT600E.

Did you fit yours to the top or bottom of the spring?

Jens Eskildsen 22 Mar 2010 21:11

It was fo a xt600e, they are on there from time to time. Will see if I can find the dealer.

The kit firts on top of the spring.
