primary coil resistance

Hi all
Been checking through things on my bike. Checked the resistance on the spark plug cap and its just about in spec at (10.5)

Spark plug lead to minus terminal on the coil is within spec at 13.7, but im getting zero between the plus and minus terminals on the coil itself. Im guessing that this will be the cause of the bikes refusal to start?

It has been cutting out when throttling off in recent weeks and when pulling up at lights. Does it seem likely to you guys with more experience that a failing coil is the reason for that as well?

Any help very welcome
Cheers
Bill

I hope it's not 10.5 or 13.7 ohms you've measured. It should be 10,500 (or in shorthand, 10.5k ohms). If your multimeter is on the same range it'll show zero across the + / - terminals on the coil as it'll regard the couple of ohms (just measured a spare coil at 3.1 ohms) it should be as close to zero. You need to measure the plug leads on the thousands scale and the coil on the singles scale.

Just rechecked it
On the 200 ohms setting im getting a reading of 4.0 minus to positive. Looks like you were right backofbeyond!

I thought i had checked it on the right setting. This is cos im rushing it so can go to work on it later.

Thanks guys!
