plastic tanks and stickers

Hi People

I’m just about to order my Acerbis tank for my TTR600E – I was thinking I’d like to make a copy of the TTR original sticker set and put them on the Acerbis, as i’ve got my own plotting cutter. As they have a sticker already on the tank, I guess a low tack vinyl is ok for a plastic tank?

Anybody done this or should I mail them ?

Try to get some a 1 to 1.5mm good vinyl.. there are lots of cheap stuff out there so choose wisely :)

I would ask Acerbis
Some stickers on the older plastic tanks have very tiny holes in them, I think some plastic tanks let vapour through the plastic so normal stickers will blister.
I got an acerbis tank second hand it was blue I dont know if it was painted blue by Acerbis or the previopus owner but the paint did not stick to the tank very well. I have since scraped the blue paint off.
Let us know how you get on.

vinil stickers

petrol vapors tend to pass through any plastic tank, when it gets old. If you just bought it, and think to keep it for long time, tankerite treatment Trattamento e rivestimento interno per serbatoi - Tankerite is the only way to avoid it.

otherwise after few years they will be damaged by petrol.

Tankerite can also be used to renovate old tanks, in this case they have to be cleaned in a hot bath of caustic soda, then treated inside, and after this they can be painted outside

all the skickers that i put on my acerbis 23l tank (xt600e) bubbled up. i thought it was the temp changes? hot sun expanding the plastic then cold nights shrinking it.

My friend has the same bike and same acerbis tank, stickers bubble up and slide off after two or three weeks.
Dosnt matter if the stickers are perforated or not. the escaping fuel vapors kill the glue

I have a `00 Xt600e just like the Australian army had,and they had tank covers to protect the plastic from the wheather .They have changed to the KLR but Canvas tank covers can be made to order and a design or colour may be ordered. Check out your local upholster.
Happy hunting.
