Part number needed for 3AJ Tenere

Hi there
I'm currently in South America (Colombia) on my 3AJ Tenere. Heading south. I need to replace the two little o-rings that sit between the oil tank and the oil pipe that's attached to the side of the oil tank. They are the ones that stop the screws leaking oil, not the larger one that seals the oil pipe itself. I would be very grateful if anyone could help me out with a part number, or a copy of the relevant page of the microfiche / parts book.
Thanks
Mark

Hey Mark.

Rubber o-rings? there is one big one that does the sealing of the pipe & you said not that one (understood).

Now when you say between the tank & pipe Mark that`s where im confused? ive got a 3AJ which i just rebuilt & dont recall two o-rings there & the fiche doesn't show any either?

I cant go taking mine off its full of oil, is there a recess for an o-ring to sit in to, on the face of the oil pipe (the face that meets the tank).

From memory i thought there was a firbre washer that went over the two bolts and sat on the outside not in between the pipe & tank.

Geoff should be getting his arse out of bed in the UK & he may be able to help (he`s got three 3AJ`s) but like i said i cannot see one on the fiche.

If Geoff doesn't chime in here ill PM him & ask him to look or if he can remember?

Mezo.

Hi Mark, yes I know which o rings you mean, (they sit in a recess behind the flange Mezo)..... I dunno the part number, I can measure them for you, or I can send you two somewhere or I could get the number from my dealer.... just gimme a shout....:thumbup1:

Hi Mezo

Thanks for your reply. Yes there are two circular recesses in the face of the pipe flange that faces the oil tank. I've just removed two mangled o-rings from there. I think you're right about the washers directly under the bolt heads though.

I bought replacement o-rings in the past when I was in the UK - how puzzling that your microfiche doesn't show them.

By the way, I was interested to see the link to the UK Tenere forum. I didn't realise it existed.

Would be grateful if Geoff or anyone else can help out. Is there anywhere on the Web that I can look at a microfiche for the 3AJ?

Thanks
Mark

Hi Geoff
Thanks very much. It would be difficult to have them sent here as I'm on the road. Measurements would be very useful - I could go and see if I can find something in the motorcycle shop block here in Medellin. Or the part number would be great. Maybe a dealer in Bogota could help me out if I had that (as the Tenere was never imported they don't have the microfiche in the Yamaha dealers in Colombia, but hopefully the same part is used for other models).
Thanks for your trouble
Mark

I think the part number is 83210 10197

That's great, thanks Geoff. I'll go to the Medellin Yamaha place with that number this morning and see whether I get any joy there.
All the best
Mark

I've got a copy of the fiche here but I can't make it out too good....
A simple 6mm o ring will do the job though

G30ff 12 Apr 2011 16:00

that last number is wrong its more like 83210 09350... or 08350

Mark 12 Apr 2011 16:12

OK, Thanks again Geoff. I'll let you know how I get on.
Cheers

Hi Geoff
Just what I've always wanted - a 3AJ microfiche!! It's a bit confusing that it only shows one when there should be 2. Oh well, I now have a selection of part numbers to try. I'm off to the bike shop block in Medellin now. With a bit of luck I'll come back with my o-rings and few other goodies. I really appreciate your help with this. I'll let you know if I'm lucky.
Cheers
Mark

They only draw one Mark or the fiche would be to busy to read.

Cheers Geoff. :thumbup1:

Mark just put that number in Google & up pops the places you can get it, and other bikes it goes on as well.

Mezo.

Thanks Geoff and Mezo for all your help.

Part number 93210-09859 was the correct part.

I ordered them from a local Yamaha dealer (in Medellin, Colombia) and they arrived yesterday. I tried fitting them today, but they kept falling out of place. I wanted to use threadlock on the screws as extra insurance against oil leaks, so I didn't want to put grease on the o-rings to hold them in place.

I tried checking whether the oil pipe was well sealed to the tank by disconnecting the breather hose from the top corner of the tank, connecting an alternative hose and blowing hard into the hose. With the o-rings I could hear air escaping from this joint. When I re-did it without the o-rings I couldn't. So it seems like a tight seal without the o-rings. I have since filled with oil and run the engine until it was hot and there's no sign of a leak.

So, in the end I didn't fit the o-rings and I'm just relying on the threadlock. I'll post an update if find any problems further down the road.

Cheers all
Mark

Did the o-rings come sealed in a Yamaha bag with that part number on Mark?
Strange how they didn't want to seat correctly? wonder if your supposed to change all three at the same time?

Ah well as long as its holding i guess that's the main thing, give myself or Geoff a hollar if your stuck with anything else.

Happy travels. :scooter:

Are you posting pics of your journey somewhere Mark?

Mezo.
