Original silencer
Hi all,I've been looking through the what exhaust threads? but can't find an answer to my problem. I own a 1985 43F kickstart XT600,it's currently fitted with a Laser silencer.I want to replace this with a quiet silencer and I've looked around or a replacement,Wemoto do a pattern of the original (£156),has anyone got any experience of this silencer, can you still get the genuine Yamaha silencer for a bike this old? Will silencers made for XT600E models fit the earlier bikes? Thanks for any advice.

forget original parts, too expensive. Check for parts at Honda Motorcycle Parts, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha Motorcycle Parts - ATV, Classic Bike, Dirt Bike Parts. Wemoto will be ok if you look for a replacement, road legal. XT600E could be adapted, with some welding, basically all yamaha xt600 exhaust have same tube diameter (50 mm) but frame connections r different.

Cyberzar, thanks very much for the link, thats just the reference I need seeing as I'm rebuilding the bike in a few weeks.
One last point though, whats the difference between a XT600L and a XT600N?I've cross referenced the part numbers for carb, wiring loom etc and the're the same! I thought the later silencer would work with the engine, but I was'nt sure about it fitting the chassis. |
Hi Mark,
I suspect your silencer is a Laser ProDuro? A stainless connector pipe shaped for your model, and a universally used silencer (as sold aftermarket for various model ranges). These "universal" silencers come in two forms, off-road (which I guess you have?) and road legal. So one option you appear to have is to get hold of a road legal ProDuro silencer (either new, or one offered for any model on e'b.a.y). Hope this helps, Geoff |
Get someon to make you a Db killer, all you need is basicly to put a smaller exithole ond the exhaust.

If you go to a standard silencer, you will lose the power increase created by an aftermarket straight through style silencer.

Thanks for the replies,I'm tearing the bike down for a full rebuild in a couple of weeks so now I've got some options to think about, whilst I get the frame blasted/ powder coated and the engine rebuilt.
