Oil pump damaged?

Hi,

Can anyone who has seen some oil pumps from the inside tell me whether this is normal wear after 60000KM or whether the pump has been damaged?

Thanks,

That is not normal wear, it is ABUSE.

Mezo.

Yeah. I bought this bike as a project. It had a seized top-end (camshafts). It happened after he did some work on the engine. He expected it was because he forgot to bleed the oil pump afterwards. Now I'm not so sure.

The bike had the usual 5th gear pitting, but it wasn't that bad. Only 3 teeth from the 5th gear and 1 teeth on the 4th gear had some bits missing.
I replaced the 4th and 5th pinions and replaced all the bearings.

I'm wondering now whether the pitting has caused the oil pump to seize. The rest of the engine didn't have any damage. Piston and cylinder are perfect.

I don't know what else could've caused so much "ABUSE" to the oil pump.
Now I'm kinda worried, since it looks like the oil-pickup filter is not up to the task at all, and i'm afraid one of the other gears is gonna get pitting and ruin everything again. Unless a huge air bubble in the oil pump could prevent any oil to pump?? I doubt it..

The crank halfs are already back together, so can't make any changes to the pickup anymore...

would try to use strong magnetic oil drain plugs, one at bottom of tank, the other bottom of cases, at least it will keep the debris in one place. and yes, the pitting can do this damage.

Yeah.

In the trade we would describe that as "Outback F**ked"

You've had a lot of contamination in your oil.
