oil levels

just completed a 4000km trip on my xtz660 96 and i have two questions regarding oils.
ok first one... if i over filled the engine oil by about 200 to 300mls could this do any damage to the motor..and if not how much would i have to over fill it before it did do any damage.

second... if i blew a fork seal and only one fork was leaking oil how much would i have to lose before it really started to effect the handling.
thanks guys..phil.

Hi ,
if you overfill engine with 2-3 dcl of oil nothing will happen, the engine will force oil through cranckshaft to air filter and oil will burn in airflow or just be taken off from airfilter through small rubber tube at the bottom of airfilter...But there is not too much to think when changing oil; add equal 3 liters of fresh oil, that is enough for proper engine work ( with oilfilter replacement ). After riding of 20 km ( not less than 10 kms ) lett engine run on idle speed for aprox. 20 seconds, and than check oil level. It is possible to add 1-2 dcl, but not more!! 3,2 liters is the highest amount for XTZ 660! If you someway add more than mentioned amount, use something to take off oil from frame, approach is quite good.

Is there a modification that will help?

I'd like to modify my '97 XTZ660 3YF so I don't have to deal with this issue.

Is there any way to add an oil pressure gage? An oil temperature gage? An oil level gage?

I love my Tenere but it's really a pain trying to fit my hand in and pull the dipstick to check oil every trip!
