Oil Filter O Ring
 

Help please,

Could anyone tell me the size of the oil filter O ring on a 2002 600E. I want to order another one but cant take the filter cover off at the moment due to problems with the cover screws (Long story!!!)

Dontknow about the O-ring, but replace the bolts by studs with nuts. Glue the studs in the engine. There's more thread in the engine block than the length of the bolts.

That's a good idea, Fred.

It's way too easy to overtighten little bolts like those and pull the threads out.

Hi All long time lurker first time poster!

I have just had the same problem with my 87 XT600 2WK :MAD:
Stripped the thread out of the 2 top bolts getting them out!
I fixed it by doing the opposite to the previous poster. I bought 2 new 6mm Allen bolts 40mm long and hellicoiled new threads in the holes!
Could see no reason that the bolts should be 90mm long??
Anyway all is well new O-Ring(I just took the old one down to the bearing Mob) and not a drop of oil!!! http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I was thinking of glueing studs inn.
Is it still possible to remove the clutch cover easily with the studs in place? or are there any other problems with glueing the studs inn

Seems to me I read something about the length of the bottom screw being important, so as to block the drain hole which is uncovered by slacking off the screw, thereby allowing drainage of the filter oil into the sump, rather than into your lap. If the screw/stud is too short, the hole remains uncovered and some of the oil goes directly to the sump instead of the the oil galleries, leading to insufficient oiling at vital points in the engine.

The disadvantage of the studs is that you can't do the preliminary drain of the filter housing, so things tend to get messy at filter-change time, but hey, I guess thats something one could get used to.

Anyone know the length of the bottom drain screw, ie how long the stud would have to be? Lets say the bottom thread of, uhm, my cousin - yeah, my cousins XT is stripped: what size stud would I, uhm, my cousin need to fabricated, and would he need to cut a new thread into the case, or would the stud cut its own thread?
