Oil don't flow, please help
 

I worked out a big service on my XT600, cylinder, clutch, magneto etc.

Also put the oil in the oil tank. A bit less than a 2L managed to fit. Started the engine 2nd kick but the oil won't start to flow! On the bolt near oil filter where you suppose to check it nothing's coming out and the oil even can't even make it to the oil filter. :(

During the service I've taken off the oil pump. I put some oil in it but after that i moved the machine a bit, it's possible that oil got away from the oil passages and that the air filled it's space. Pump was working, I checked.

Is there any "trick" to make the oil flow? It would be a pain in the ass to again dissasemble the whole thing to the oil pump and put oil in.

Btw, oil is 20W50, medium thick...

did you oil the filter, that helps.

it is possible to prime the pump through the filter cover, tilt the bike/engine over with the filter cover off pour some oil in put the cover back on and then try again.

Have you got an oil bleed bolt on the oil pump (It was a small hex bolt on my 600E). This will help clear air locks etc.

Which 600 is it ?? Can you not fill oil in the frame anywhere or is it fully wet sump ??

How do you mean tilt over? How much - lay it on side? Which side?

And there is one-way valve in the oil line in the clutch cover. Wouldn't it stop oil coming from the filter housing?

I'll try it tomorrow, please explain more

no oil bleed bolt on the pump, its a 2KF, oil is in the tank, not the frame

tilt the bike over on its left side as the filter cover is on the right fill it with oil refit the filter and get as much oil as posible in the filter housing before re fitting the cover then crank it over as normal.

20w 50 is fine the oil is not based on thickness the w is from the old days where oil was changed winter and summer w is the reference for winter not for weight.

Tried as instructed, no luck though :(

good morning, you maybe have air in the hose from the tank to the engine. disconnect the hose on the engine until the oil comes out, take care there is an o ring, than fit it again. hope this helps. greetings mika

Start from the tank and follow the oil circuit around the bike. Removing hoses and components as you go until you find the dry spot.

The tank may have a breather too. Check that.

found a solution here on the forum! used big t method with bicycle pump. it drank 2.5L easy as pie.

I like the heads painted black..

I'd be interested to hear if the paint holds up.

I know a few people who painted their exhausts, header pipes etc with that paint and it started to peel after 6-12 months.

the secret to getting the high temp paint to stay on is all in the prep it needs to be incredibly clean bare metal :thumbup1:
